The skeletons seem a bit close in the remaster at times as if they’re in the bubble that is protecting him that the original portrays. In the remaster it seems to have lost both those qualities and the server is forgettable. The server looks more like a midget in the original and has a funny walk/limp which gives the scene character. The fire looks great, but do we really need the 6 pointed shapes in the fire burner cylinders? What was wrong with the circles before? Throughout the original scene Marius looks like he is on some trip or is hallucinating from whatever he is smoking. In the remaster he just looks like an old person.Ĭut to the tavern scene. In the original his face is more hollow, more hollow in the eyes, more baggy under the eyes, more starved for food which gives you a feel for his circumstances. In the original it makes it seem like Marius knows it was his fault, he holds himself in self pity, closes his eyes, puts his hand to his face as if to chew his nails or hide, looks away, he knows it was his fault, he was just too scared… in remaster he seems confident that it isn’t his fault, as if he just finished spelling a word correctly in a spelling bee. When Marius says “It wasn’t my fault.” he can’t bear to look at Tyrael/Baal in the original but in the remaster, nope, let’s stare right at him and make new hand gestures! This changes the feeling. The window grate… do we really need the 6 point stars? Was the artist thinking this was the same as a pentagram and got their shapes mixed up? Was the grate not fine before? The patches in his cloak are in the wrong spots, why? Why do we need to change up the patch position? Tyrael’s armor is so over blown and more clear (bad, because Marius probably shouldn’t be seeing so clear, maybe a mortal can’t see angel armor so clearly, and/or Baal might have caused the blurriness helping with his disguise more.) Also, a lot of the armor isn’t shown in the original, and this was mysterious, made me think that Baal just killed some other angel and only bothered to take a few pieces to pass for his disguise back then I figured most of the angel’s had the same uniform/armor. In the remaster it’s like his head is locked in position… The darkness was lacking. Marius has grown more hair? Why? The head movements are practically all gone at the start. Marius’s facial expressions and hand gestures were lacking/different at times. Please note, some of these are nit picks, but why change them? Why not just keep it as it was?Ĭons: Drool was lacking. I’ll point out the good as well, because it’s proof you can do a great job and copy while up scaling the detail/quality/enhancing it. Why not keep the original objects and patterns?Īnyway, here are the cons and pros of the cinematic. Changing the shapes or patterns of environmental objects instead of just enhancing them. The Amazon, Assassin, Barb, Druid, Necromancer, and Sorceress all look worse for a number of different reasons depending on which one we’re talking about. The original looks far better than the new “remastered” in game version. You’re taking the saying “Copy my homework, but change it up a little.” and it’s making things worse… You have done some good though.Įxample of good that Blizzard has done: Things you want to change are quality of life issues like the stash, gold pickup, and like when you make the uniques look like their picture in game. Fans want you to copy the homework exactly, but just enhance it. It’s not so much of a remaster but a redo. Sure enough, Blizzard can’t even copy the same gestures and facial expressions that brought the depth, life, and expression to the words he was saying.Ĭhanging the facial expressions, movements, gestures, plus the lighting and camera angles… and you just change the feel and atmosphere of the cinematic/story. So I pulled up the original and watched them side by side. But then we get to Marius and his facial expressions, gestures, and movements… they just didn’t look right. So I started watching the “remaster” of the Act 1 cinematic and we’re a bit zoomed in on the spider but whatever.
